IDEA Labs is a bioengineering design incubator founded in 2012 at Washington University in St. Louis.

At Demo Day, interdisciplinary student teams from the School of Medicine, School of Engineering & Applied Science and the Division of Biology and Biomedical Sciences will demonstrate prototypes for inventions they have designed to solve a variety of health-care problems. Most teams have been developing their prototypes since IDEA Day in October, when medical faculty and classmates posed health-care related problems they had observed.

Some of the prototypes to be presented at Demo Day include a wireless communication device for people who are paralyzed, an adjustable chair for lumbar puncture procedures and an implantable mobile device to reduce the severity of epileptic seizures.

A panel of professionals from related fields will judge the students’ presentations. The winning team will receive a spot in the Arch Grants annual business plan competition, which awards $50,000 grants to St. Louis startups. Two other students will receive grants through the University’s Skandalaris Center for Entrepreneurial Studies to complete summer internships.

Event schedule:
• 6 to 6:30 p.m. – Dinner and opening remarks by Evan D. Kharasch, MD, PhD, vice chancellor for research and the Russell and Mary Shelden Professor of Anesthesiology
• 6:30 to 8 p.m. – Presentations by six IDEA Labs teams
• 8 to 9 p.m. – Poster session
• 9 p.m. – Winners announced

This event, including dinner, is free and open to the public. For further information, contact Joshua Siegel, IDEA Labs' director of development, at siegelj@wusm.wustl.edu. To learn more about IDEA Labs, visit the website.
